played by Bruce Willis in Die Hard
What set John McClane apart from other action heroes of the late ‘80’s is evident at the end of Die Hard, when McClane.  Calling hoarsely for his wife, he is bloody, filthy and can barely walk.  That humanity, that apparent weakness, makes him all the more appealing.
