Hayao Miyazaki has always had an uncanny ability to capture the inner lives of children.  With Chihiro, he did himself one better, presenting the entire scope of childhood.  Chihiro grows from a brat to a young woman in a way that is so seamless that, by the end of the movie, you feel you’ve known her for years.
