played by Paul Scofield in A Man For All Seasons
A man at once cynical, yet idealistic, Thomas More makes integrity look cool.  Throughout the film, as his fate is gradually sealed, we get the sense that More knew this was coming the whole time.  That he holds to his righteous defiance in spite of his impending doom only strengthens his status as one of the most courageous characters in film history.
